It feels like 2015 have just started. However, it’s already February! How are we doing on our New Year’s resolutions? Here is my material from the radio show that I have done at uni.
10 Ways to Be Happier in 2015 (365 new days, 365 new chances)
- Stop making excuses for not living out your dream.
Ask yourself if what you’re doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow. Live your life without regrets. Hate Your Job? Start Working towards Something New. Remember that a diamond is just a piece of coal that did well under pressure. It will take time but things will be better. Don’t forget that life is short so don’t waste it on stuff that sucks.
- Take more risks.
Make mistakes and fail a few times. Don t be afraid to fail, be afraid not to try. Let the challenges help build your character because the success that follows will be worth it.
- Laugh and smile.
No one is in charge of your happiness except you. Smile, you don’t own all the problems in the world.
Unhappy people walk with their head down and their posture slumped; stand up tall and walk tall! Don’t compare your life to others and don’t judge them. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
- Put Down Your iPhone and Start Living Your Life.
Instead of scrolling down the newsfeed on Facebook, go out with your friends, visit your family, read a book or go to the gym. You may not notice how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different.
- Be happy for others.
Genuinely be happy for other’s success because you’ll want them to be happy for you when you share your good news. Give what you’d like to receive. Remember that happiness is not the absence of problems; it’s the ability to deal with them.
Find the courage to let go of what you can’t change. Whether it is guilt, anger, love or loss. Change is never easy. We fight to hold on and we fight to let go.
- Slow down and enjoy the little moments.
Stop being too busy to taste the flavors in your food, to hear yourself think, to watch the sunset or to listen to the words of your favorite song.
Find a local organisation that you can give a couple of hours to each week, or help out friends and family asking for nothing in return.
- Be kind.
Kindness generates positive feelings and lots of happiness, for you and for the recipient. Do Something Nice for Someone. There is always something to be thankful for.
Even the gentlest walk can help to increase the production of endorphins, the happy hormones, so make exercise a part of your daily life and reap the benefits. No matter how hard it is, just keep going because you only fail when you give up.
